Program Note

I think of this piece as the journey of one questioning what they want for themselves. Sometimes it seems like we have arrived at an answer, only to realize... perhaps not. Heavily inspired by the 2016 election, I found it baffling to think that before all of this, we were children. Just children. Children with our own hopes and desires and dreams. How could a child grow up to be horrid? When did the nature of the child die and the nature of the adult take over? How gradual is it?

With these thoughts in my head, I chose to focus on the idea of childhood and what a child might think. What they want. There were days when I wanted to be an astronaut, and days when I wanted to be an archaeologist, or a paleontologist. Days when I wanted to own a cake factory. Days of so many dreams that I can’t recall them all. What events lead from those dreams to where we are now? Do we even have a right to know?
